the first term of an arithmetic sequence is 20 and the common difference is 15. Find the fifth term of the sequence

Solution

The 1st term = 20

Common difference (d) = 15

5th term = a + d(n-1)

= 20 + 15(5- 1)                       [Here n = 5)

= 20 + 15(4)

5th term = 20 + 60 = 80

The answer is 80.
