add the -6 to all parts of the equation to leave you with :

-3y + 10 = 5y + 6

then you will add -3y, again, to all parts of the equation leaving you with :

8y + 6 = 10

subtract 6 from both sides :

8y = 4

divide each side by 8 :

your final answer should be

y = 1/2 or 0.5
