Substitute y = -x + 2 in equation (ii)

2x - (-x + 2) = -5

2x + x - 2 = - 5

3x - 2 = -5            {add 2 to both side}

3x -2 + 2 = -5 + 2

3x = -3   { divide both sides by 3}

3x/3 = -3/3

x = -1

Plug in the value of x in equation (i)

y  = - (-1) + 2

y = 1 +2

y = 3
